As War Rages, Yemen’s Fathers and Sons Face an Uncertain Future

Photographer Alex Potter spent several years living and working in Yemen up through the beginning of the conflict broke out. Together with Mallory, she was able to make a return visit in 2019 to document one of the more underreported stories on the war — the impact on family. Alex spent time with fathers and sons in both the North and the South to look at the impact the war has had on things like jobs and education, but moreso at the unbreakable familial bonds that remained between fathers and sons.

This story was a finalist for Original Digital Photography, Feature Documentary for the 2020 Society of Publication Designers contest.
