Mallory Benedict is a visual story producer who specializes in conceptualizing visual experiences that engage multiple mediums and technologies across platforms and devices. She is currently on the Camera and Photos team at Apple.
Aside from still photography, she collaborated with colleagues to employ video, AR/VR experiences, audio, archives, collage, illustration and photo intervention in her work, and enjoys mixing contemporary and analogue tech in her storytelling. Passionate about transmedia storytelling, she previously oversaw the publication of multiple expressions of stories she produced through live events, Instagram Stories, Tiktok, and AR/VR experiences.
Prior to her work at Apple, she was a photo editor for National Geographic Magazine for 10 years, commissioning original photography across print, digital, and mobile platforms. Her core goal was to tell stories with collaboration, experimentation, sensitivity, and consent at the top of mind. She uses the past to understand present-day issues in her work and also worked on projects related to social justice and geopolitics.
Her photo editing work has been recognized by the American Society of Magazine Editors, National Press Photographer’s Association, Pictures of the Year International and Society of Publication Designers.
Mallory was also the Programs Manager for Women Photograph since its inception in 2017. Women Photogrsph is a nonprofit designed to elevate the work of women and non-binary photographers around the globe. At WP, she built and facilitated the annual mentorship program and managed the Instagram account, which grew to over 190k followers during her tenure.
Benedict graduated from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism where she studied photojournalism, anthropology, and political science.
