Students in Flint celebrate last prom as high school shuts down

Photographers and filmmakers Jessica Dimmock and Zackary Canepari had been documenting the Flint water crisis for years, eventually producing a documentary. Entrenched in the community, they learned that one of the local high schools was going to shut down due to declining enrollment and that the school’s last prom would be an even bigger production than ever, sending the students out with a bang.

“In many ways, the event marks a moment more significant than the dance itself. It's an affirmation that these students have made it through the many challenges they faced growing up in Flint,” the story reads.

Combining video portraits, still photography by street and fashion photographer Daniel Arnold, and a short documentary, Mallory and a team of designers created a dynamic digital experience intended to mirror the glamour of the event itself.
